Welfare Policy

Welfare Policy

This policy will be used by the Vegetarian Cycling & Athletic Club (VCAC or the Club) with regard to the welfare of its members and supporters.

VCAC is affiliated to England Athletics (EA), and will adopt the Welfare Policy of the EA, in so far as they are relevant – as many of the EA policies refer to clubs where members meet in a club environment, regularly have club training sessions or club events with adults and / or children present.

Code of Conduct, as adapted for VCAC use:

As a responsible Club, VCAC will:

i. Adopt national welfare policies and procedures, adhere to the codes of conduct and respond to any suspected breaches in accordance with the Welfare Procedures;

ii. Appoint a welfare officer, and ensure that they are provided with appropriate training to act as a first point of contact for concerns about welfare issues;

iii. Liaise appropriately with national governing bodies and other relevant people/organisations to ensure that good practice is maintained;

iv. Ensure that club officers and volunteers always act responsibly and set an example to others;

v. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every club member and others involved in athletics/sport and treat everyone equally;

vi. Consistently promote positive aspects of the sport such as fair play and never condone rule violations or the use of prohibited or age-inappropriate substances;

vii. Challenge inappropriate behaviour and language by others;

viii. Place the welfare and safety of the athletes / members above other considerations including the development of performance;

ix. Report any suspected misconduct by club officials, coaches, technical officials or other people involved in athletics to the Club, Regional, National or UKA welfare officer as soon as possible.
